Voting is a privilege that not every person in the world has and it should be treated as an honor. If you don’t vote and are able to, then take this as a sign that God has guided you to hear this story.

Christian views on voting how to vote and choose a Godly candidate

The truth is: I haven’t always voted.

When I was old enough to vote, I didn’t exercise that privilege. My view back then was that all politicians were crooked so no matter who wins, it wouldn’t affect me. I felt like that there wasn’t any “Godly” choices and that money would always control whoever was chosen. It didn’t make any sense to me to waste my time on something that was already rigged by dirty politicians.

One CD changed my perspective.

One day I picked up a free CD from a convenience story that had a preacher talking about voting. He started out with how God expects us, as Christians, to vote and participate in this selection process. He explained that if Christians didn’t vote then it could have a negative affect for the churches and our religious freedoms. How can Christians make a difference if we are sitting back in the shadows and not choosing who would be leading our country? Christians have a voice and we should use it. This had me intrigued enough to keep listening.

How would I know who to vote for?

As I continued to listen, the preacher talked about how we have a duty to God to help vote in the best candidate that would uphold Christian beliefs. He explained that you should research each candidate and closely compare them to your core Christian values. Whoever aligns the closest should be your choice. Then he continued to preach about regardless of who wins, you should always pray over them to lead according to God’s word.

Never once did he give his political position, nor did he try to persuade anyone to vote a certain way. His only purpose was to make sure that people understood the value of voting and that every vote counts. That CD changed my perspective so much that I registered to vote. I don’t have the CD anymore and I wish I would’ve thanked him for that sermon years ago because it made a difference.

I still follow that same advice today and that’s why I wanted to share it with you. I don’t take voting lightly because there are so many that don’t have that privilege around the world. Many men and women have died to protect this right and I will never again take it for granted. If you are able to vote but don’t, I encourage you to take this story as a testimony to someone who has been there. Pray about it and let God guide you in your decision.
