I wanted to start off my southern recipes collection with one that was passed along from my dad to my momma. My momma loved to cook big dinners especially during the holidays but her specialty was always the desserts.

She always looked for new dessert recipes to try out but she always made sure she made a cherry yum-yum and millionaire pie no matter what. When she passed away I took her recipe book so that all her recipes wouldn’t get lost. We all miss her dearly and cherish our memories of her and her recipes.

Even though her handwriting is hard to read, I have managed to pass it along in my family and now I am passing it along to yours. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
cherry yum yum southern dessert recipe

Cherry Yum-Yum

Ingredients:

1 – can cherry pie filling (this varies on how much you want to make – I suggest at least 2 but I am writing it how she wrote it)

2 – cups graham cracker crumbs

1 – stick of butter

1 – 14 oz. size cream cheese

1/2 cup – sugar

1 – tsp. vanilla

1 package – dream whip

Melt butter and pour into crumbs. Press 1/2 in dish. Mix dream whip according to directions. In a separate bowl mix cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Pour into dream whip and blend. Pour 1/2 mixture in dish over crumbs. Add 1/2 cherries. Layer the rest alternating.

Of course over the years we have changed some things to make it a little better (just as you will too) but it’s the love my momma put into the recipe that made it taste so good.
