What is a vision board? A vision board is a collection of words and pictures that visually represent your goals, expectations and/or dreams. This is a visualization tool that helps you stay motivated and inspired to keep moving forward in a positive direction.
How do I get started? Just like a party, you need to plan it out.
The first step is to think about your short term goals, long term goals, material goals, spiritual goals, business goals, travel goals, financial goals, health goals and relationship goals. The list can go on and on but think about what you really want in your life and how you want your life to be. Write down your goals so that you can stay focused on what you want to put on your vision board. My focus was on things like my website being successful, making more money, enjoying life, loosing weight and traveling. I also used a lot of motivational words to keep me positive and encouraged. There is no right or wrong; it’s pure visualization of what you want in your life.
Remember this is your board; not your partner’s board, not your family’s board, not your kids’ board and not your friends’ board. Later on you can make a family board, a couple’s board or a group board but I strongly recommend doing your own board first. This allows you to really get an understanding about who you are and what you want, as an individual, in your life.
Next comes the fun part, figuring out what you want to use as your board. For me, I did it the old fashion way with a poster board from the dollar store but you can google “vision board images” or check out Pinterest to see what creative things can be used as a board. After you picked your board, you can print out images or cut out images from old magazines or sales papers. You can even use hand written notes because this is your board and you know how it can best serve you. (I had several old magazines laying around so finally got to put them to some good use.)
Once I finished cutting out all the pictures and words, I started gluing them to my board. This process took me about 3 days because I wanted it to truly represent my goals. Nothing on it is “just for looks” or just to make it pretty. Everything I put on my board has a meaning to me on what I want and how I want to be, which is why it took so long to make. You could probably make one in 30 minutes or less if you wanted to but it was important for me to invest the time and effort in creating it exactly how I want it. In return, not only will I will appreciate what I made more but I will want to use it even more.
Lastly, finding a place to put your board. You will want to put your board somewhere that you see it every day. This could be anywhere from your office to your bedroom. You don’t have to share it with everyone (unless you want to) but it needs to be where you can visually see it every day. I put mine on my dresser in my bedroom so that I can see it every day when I wake up. Along with my affirmations, I can start every day refreshed with a positive visualization of my goals.

interesting concept. i Use mood boards but not something where I WOULD ALSO ADD WORDS TO KEEP ME FOCUSED ON PERSONAL GOALS!
It’s like a booster to pictures because most of my goals are not all materialistic. Be your own cheerleader!
