1) Doesn’t amount to a hill of beans – It has no value or meaning.

2) Living high on the hog – This usually refers to someone who is living a lavish lifestyle with money, eating good and luxuries.

3) Having a hissy fit – This is the same as having a temper tantrum but southern style.

4) Playing possum – Somebody is acting like they are asleep or dead. Possums play dead hoping predators will leave them alone. (My kids used to play possum hoping I wouldn’t make them get out of bed. It never worked lol)

5) Slower than molasses – Somebody is being so slow that you might have to check their vital signs because molasses pours out extremely slow.

6) About to jerk a knot in your tail – Somebody is about to get a butt whoopin’ or in other words, a spanking.

7) Not the sharpest tool in the shed – It’s the southern polite way of saying that someone is not that smart. 

8) Hold your horses – Wait a minute or hold on.

9) Cuttin’ a rug – No it’s not physically cutting a rug but it means your dancing up a storm. Boogie down my friend.

10) Out in the boondocks – Now if you here a Southerner say that a place is out in the boondocks or boonies, it’s not just out in the country; it’s like a place beyond civilization and google maps. Good luck finding it lol.

11) I don’t have a dog in that fight – This means that the person don’t have any grounds to give an opinion. In other words, they have nothing to gain or nothing to loose so they are going to stay out of it.

12) Happy as a pig in mud – Pigs love mud especially on hot summer days so being happy as a pig means that you in your happiest spot.
