If you were raised by a Southern momma then you know the truth behind these signs all too well. Here are the nine signs that you were raised by a Southern momma:

1) You always use your manners. You say sir, mam and thank you. You don’t talk with your mouth full, you always open the door for someone else and you don’t talk back.

2) You fry everything and drink sweet tea. You learned that Crisco is your best friend in the kitchen and the only drink choice is sweet tea.

3) You’re always nice.

  • You learned not to say “shut up” but to say hush or be quiet.
  • You make your words soft and sweet because you might have to eat them later.
  • You know you’ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

4) You’re always prepared. From first aid to a pocket knife to duck tape, you always have something to fix a problem.

5) You always keep a schedule. Weekdays are for working, Saturdays are for cleaning house (before the college football game) and Sundays are for going to church.

6) You follow the rules.

You call your momma at least once a week to check in because you already know if you don’t, you will have missed calls, voice messages and text messages on your phone. You follow the rules – faith, family and friends.

7) You enjoy the outdoors. You learned that sitting on the front porch is an important place where family and friends gather.

8) You pray every day. You know that God don’t like ugly and what’s done in the dark, will always come to light.

9) You silence the “g” in “-ing”.

You know how to spell the words right but you say them as fixin’, gettin’, fishin’, nothin’, makin’, forgettin’, fryin’, sayin’, runnin’, rainin’, etc.
