Located right off of I85 in Gaffney, South Carolina, this striving outlet mall has been around for years and is a favorite for many of the locals.
In South Carolina, we usually refer to Gaffney Outlet Marketplace as “the yellow mall” across from the “Jesus store”.

One Sunday, my husband and I decided to take a short road trip to see what deals we could find on apparel for our upcoming vacation. Little did we know how much the mall had changed.
Still the “yellow mall” but once we got out and started walking down the rows, you can tell how online shopping was taking it’s toll on the mall.
There were a lot of empty spaces where stores had shut down or moved to be closer to the high traffic areas. Alot of the awnings that would keep you dry if it rained were missing and even the food court only had a few places left to eat at.
Helpful shopping tips:
- When shopping at outlet stores, you need to be careful because you are not always getting the “deal” that you think you are. Online shopping has caused prices to rise so stores can cover the overhead of having the physical store open.
- You usually can find the best deals on the clearance racks or if they have buy one, get one sale. Most of the merchandise is marked up really high and put on “sale” to make you think you are getting a good deal.
- Just be mindful of what something is actually worth verses what you are paying.
Having The Big E and building a small playground for the kids helps to keep traffic coming but I hate to see the mall so run down. I hope that new businesses will be recruited to help bring the mall back to it’s former glory. Even though it was sad to see the mall in this condition, we had a great time shopping together and I am glad we were able to contribute.
This article is dedicated to all the striving malls across America like Gaffney Outlet Marketplace. I encourage you to visit your local mall. I know my blog has affiliated links to help keep my website going but I still alternate my shopping habits instead of always shopping online. I still want to keep the physical stores open too. Remember every time a store closes, people loose jobs and you will no longer have the opportunity to physically visit the store.
If you are looking for a place to open up a new business, I encourage you to check out your local malls. I’m all for preserving the places I love to shop!
