Author Martin Niewood’s The Wilted Flower District is the second installment in the Forgotten Violets young adult fantasy series.
The Wilted Flower District follows the story of 16-year-old Violet Noone who lives in the Wilted Flower District in the Domain. The world she knows begins to change when her sister, Ophelia, visits her after being presumed dead for the last 4 years. Violet and her brother, Weylin, find themselves fleeing a murder scene when trying to meet up with Ophelia and become prime suspects of a murder mystery. The lead investigator, Penny, is determined to find out everything Violet is hiding while Violet is trying to hide the situation from her adoptive mom, Ivy.

Violet is determined to find out what is going on and where Ophelia is, no matter the cost. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she finds out about the connection of murder to the forbidden fruit, Elsyn. Violet confronts her own beliefs, the political order and the physical world. The question is: how far will she go and at what price is she wiling to pay to learn the truth?
Unfortunately, I did not read the first book in the Forgotten Violet series so I cannot comment on the connection of the two books but I can say that the author did a wonderful job of creating a stand alone book. I didn’t need the first book to understand what was going on, who the main characters were or where the story was going. This is a great read for young adults that like a touch of realism with a twist of fantasy.
