Book Review:

The Matrimonial Advertisement by Mimi Matthews

In England 1859 marriages were normally arranged by the families for social status purposes but this was not the case for Helena Reynolds. Helena is about to answer a matrimonial advertisement that is far from England and all her troubles. Justin Thornhill is the peculiar yet handsome man that Helena has gone to meet for this so called business marriage arrangement. She is looking for safety and he is looking for someone to run his household and to share his bed. Are the two even compatible? What is Helena running from? What from the past has kept Justin from marring before now? With both holding back so many secrets, will the marriage work or will they both decide to take separate paths? There are so many questions to be answered and time is of the essence.

This was a great mystery love story and beautifully written. The characters are so defined and  individually unique that you make an emotional connection with them. As you are drawn deeper into the story, you want to see what is going to be revealed next and how it will change the story for the couple.

I am not a super fan of reading love stories but the time period and how well it was written kept me intrigued to see what was coming next. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to see more from the author.
