With Halloween around the corner, there are plenty of new and old horror movies to watch that will creep you out and scare you right out of your britches.
When you start seeing the leaves changing colors, the air getting crispy and pumpkins popping up, you know the season of Halloween is upon us. It’s the best time of the year for new horror movies to take the stage but where does the inspiration for these movies come from? The classics.
Even though some of the classic movies don’t have the technical quality of the newer movies, the story line is enough to keep you jumping. Most of the best classics have been redone to appeal to the new generations but nothing can beat the creepiness of the original movies. From serial killers to creepy kids to ghosts these movies have got you covered!

10 – Psycho (1960) – Next time you book a hotel on a trip, make sure it’s nothing like this one. The hotel clerk, Norman Bates, is a serial killer that dresses up like his deceased mother. This classic hotel horror film was so creepy that there was even a TV series (Bates Motel) made from it.
9 – Poltergeist (1982) – How much TV time do you give your children? Well make sure that they don’t watch it alone if your house is built on ancient burial grounds. The spirits take a small, innocent child hostage trying to show how angry they are about it. This movie was remade in 2015 but nothing compares to the original. (Sequels)
8 – Child’s Play (1988) – Playing with dolls will never be the same because this doll is possessed with a evil spirit and out to get revenge! The sequels to this movie seem to be less scarier and more funny but the original Chucky doll will surely creep you out. (Sequels)
7 – Pet Sematary (1989) – It is always tragic for a pet to die because they are part of your family. After this family’s pet dies, it is buried in a pet cemetery and somehow it is brought back to life. Crazy right? But when their son dies, they want to do the same thing but Gage is not the same sweet child as before. (Sequels)
6 – The Amityville Horror (1979) – Is it based off a true story or not? There is so much controversy over this but either way it is definitely a great story about a haunted house. There is so much evil in the house that even a priest can’t provide help. The rumor is that when the movie was filmed that there were a lot of mysterious things happening on the set. In 2005, there was a remake but I liked the classic better.

5 – Halloween (1978) – To make the trick-or-treat season even scarier, a serial killer is on the loose. On Halloween, Michael Meyers puts on his white mask and goes on a killing spree. You can’t out run him and you can’t kill him (yet). What’s so great about this movie is that this year (2018) the newest sequel comes out and it might be the ending that everyone is waiting for. I can’t wait! (Sequels)
4 – Friday the 13th (1980) – There has always been superstitions about Fridays falling on the 13th and bad things happening but this slasher movie blows them out of the water. Teenagers beware because Jason has his hockey mask on and he is on the prowl. Next time you go to a camp out in the woods, make sure it’s not near Crystal Lake. (Sequels)
3 – A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) – There are nightmares that you wish you could wake up from because they are so vivid but in this nightmare movie it becomes reality. Freddy waits patiently for you to fall asleep or take a nap so that he can terrorize you in your dreams. The problem is that some people never wake up. (Sequels)
2 – The Exorcist (1973) – Do you have a daughter with an attitude? Maybe so but I bet it’s nothing like this one. In this movie, a young girl becomes possessed by a demonic spirit and her mother seeks helps from priests to save her. This is a demon like no other and a great classic horror story. (Sequels)
1 – The Shining (1980) – Still holding the number one spot for decades and no movie has been able to surpass the classic hotel horror film. Even with the fair warnings of the past, Jack accepts a position at the Overlook Hotel for the winter and brings his family along. Little does he know about the mystery of room 237 and the madness that will haunt him.
