In this murder mystery by Ann Lambert, The Birds That Stay, it shows that history does not stay buried forever.

As winter approaches a small village in the Laurentians, north of Montreal, an older woman is found strangled outside her home. The Chief of Homicide, Romeo Leduc, reluctantly answers the call on the case even though he is only one day away from his first vacation in years.
Marie Russell did not know her elderly neighbor and does not expect to become involved in solving her murder but unexpected clues start to link the crime to a terrible incident that happened on Marie’s suburban Montreal street in the 1970s.
Romeo and Marie become intertwined in the investigation as they are both forced to face demons from their own pasts. Nothing and no one is really as it seems which proves that the sins from the past are never forgotten, or forgiven, in this compelling Quebec Noir.
The author went into great detail to set the stage of each character. As the story unfolds, you find out how the characters are connected and that there is so much more to the story than just the murder of an elderly lady from down the street. This is a great read for murder mystery fans.
